Jincy’s Journey: From Struggles to Self-Reliance

Jincy’s mother brought Jincy to Sanjoe Prathiksha Bhavan in 2004. She had Down’s Syndrome. When she joined, Jincy was quite violent and would say things in anger. She had an obsession for movies. Her family could not control her. Her parents were daily wage labourers, and they did not have their own house. Her mother was the one taking care of Jincy, but she had to go to work due to the financial challenges in the family. When she brought Jincy to Sanjoe Prathiksha Bhavan, Jincy’s mother shared her anxiety and concern for Jincy “Jincy can not study and find a job and will not get married. She needs support, but I must go to work everyday due to our financial situation. I am very worried about her future, especially after my time”. Jincy’s mother wanted her daughter to learn the necessary skills so that Jincy can live in a house and be able to take care of herself. Sanjoe Prathiksha Bhavan provide necessary training and emotional support to Jincy to learn the basic life skills. After overcoming the initial difficulties, Jincy picked up the skills well and grew leaps and bounds. It was a very difficult task to train Jincy in basic reading and writing skills; but with persistent efforts and patience, Jincy learned to remember basic details about herself, and read and write her contact details. She also learned to organize and arrange items in the correct place, take and keep back items required teachers to conduct classes, and keep the areas neat and clean. After becoming 18 years of age, Jincy’s name was registered with Employment Exchange. She was invited for an interview for a sweeper post at a Veterinary Hospital; she cleared the interview and was appointed to the position! Afterwards, Jincy’s mother came back to Sanjoe Prathiksha Bhavan with a lot of pride and gratitude, and said that she was extremely happy for Jincy’s transformation and thankful for the role played by the school in that. Jincy’s mother said that Jincy started realising her self-worth, and started developing the confidence of earning a livelihood for herself. Jincy’s mother was extremely happy and relieved with the transformation.

Sanjoe Prathiksha Bhavan helps children develop self-reliance and life skills, providing significant relief to parents, especially those from financially poor backgrounds. Jincy, who had Down’s Syndrome, received crucial training and emotional support at the hostel, enabling her to learn basic skills and eventually secure a job. Her mother expressed immense pride and gratitude for the positive transformation in Jincy 's life.
